Lake Country Co-op Outdoors specializes in firearms, ammunition, outdoor gear, and recreational products. Due to the regulated nature of its products, Lake Country Co-op Outdoors (LCCO) required extensive custom rules and features to accommodate its unique business needs.
Our goal was to build a custom e-commerce site that met the business’s unique demands while remaining easy for LCCO staff to manage and update.
We created a bold yet balanced color palette that complements LCCO’s brand while capturing the spirit of the rugged outdoors. Paired with high-quality imagery of outdoor landscapes, gear, and activities, the design not only “pops” visually but also connects emotionally with the target audience.
As with all our projects, we started at the foundation. Studying user journeys, behaviors, and overall customer experience. With those insights, we began creating low-fidelity mockups using tools like Figma.
Once the design foundations were in place, we moved on to high-fidelity mockups, incorporating design elements, images, text, and refining the overall user experience.
Throughout the process, we collaborated closely with the LCCO team to stay aligned and maintain a continuous feedback loop. With the design finalized and every detail refined, our team got to work.
Based on our high-fidelity designs, we developed the storefront using Next.js, Tailwind CSS, and Shadcn/UI. The result is a fast, mobile-first, and fully responsive experience that caters to the LCCO brand. We integrated it with their e-commerce backend, optimized it for SEO, and built it for easy maintenance and scalability.
For an e-commerce website, the ability to find products quickly and efficiently is crucial, especially with the diverse range LCCO offers. We integrated Algolia, adding features like AI-powered voice search, custom filters, pricing filters, and more.
Selling regulated goods requires additional steps to remain compliant with local regulations. We built a custom checkout process that adapts based on the user’s location and the items in their cart.
This includes dynamic, item-based shipping pricing powered by ShipStation, secure payment options, streamlined form fields, region-based tax calculations, and clear progress indicators to keep the process fast and user-friendly.
Our favourites feature lets customers bookmark products they love for easy access anytime, and even share their wishlist with friends. Whether it’s a frequently purchased item or something they’re considering for the future, saved favourites make it quicker to find and buy.
LCCO needed a solution their marketing team could manage effortlessly. We integrated Sanity CMS, enabling them to update the website anytime, no technical expertise required.
Medusa is the fastest-growing commerce project on the market. We chose it for its flexibility and open-source nature. Using the Medusa platform and custom modules, we built every functionality LCCO needed.
We built a custom support ticket module that makes it easy to create and track tickets, add attachments, and receive email alerts. Admins can manage ticket history, customer details, and status all in one place, while both customers and admins can leave comments directly, eliminating the need to dig through unresolved ticket emails.
Interactive color or image swatches directly on product listings, instead of just text, simplifies the browsing experience and can significantly boost conversion rates.
Our custom swatches module for LCCO lets the team easily add image or color swatches to product variants, making updates faster and the shopping experience more visual.
An optimal e-commerce platform should adapt to the customer’s goal. With our custom product properties module, featuring dynamic facets and filters, product sorting becomes more precise and personalized, matching exactly what the shopper is looking for.

Marketing managers love data, and for good reason. Out of the box, Medusa doesn’t include a built-in analytics module. For LCCO, we integrated PostHog to handle analytics.
Beyond standard tracking, PostHog offers powerful tools like session replays, error tracking, surveys, and more, giving the team clear insights to optimize both the site and the customer experience.
