Selling wiper blades online is more complex than most people realize. Customers shop by vehicle make, model, and year, not by wiper blade length, connector type, or other technical specifications.
To create a seamless shopping experience, Wipertech needed a platform capable of accurately matching thousands of wiper blade combinations to specific vehicles, ensuring customers could quickly find the correct products without needing to understand complex fitment data.
As the business grew, Wipertech's existing Craft Commerce platform became increasingly difficult to scale. It was not designed to handle the complexity of vehicle fitment data, multi-region operations, custom integrations, and evolving customer experience requirements.
To support continued growth across Australia, New Zealand, and beyond, Wipertech needed a more flexible and scalable commerce platform.

Before development began, 306 Technologies spent several days onsite with the Wipertech team in Melbourne, Australia, conducting discovery workshops with key stakeholders.
Together, we mapped customer journeys, operational workflows, fulfillment processes, inventory management requirements, and the vehicle fitment data that powers Wipertech's shopping experience.
Using these findings, we developed the technical architecture and implementation strategy for the new platform, ensuring it could support Wipertech's operational requirements while providing a foundation for future growth.
A significant part of the project involved designing, developing, and testing integrations with key business systems. Throughout development, we worked closely with the Wipertech team to validate workflows, refine requirements, and ensure the platform aligned with day-to-day operations.
Once development was complete, we carefully migrated products, vehicle fitment relationships, customer data, content, and operational workflows from the legacy platform, minimizing disruption to customers and business operations while ensuring a smooth transition to the new system.
The result was a custom commerce platform built on Medusa, designed specifically around Wipertech's vehicle-first shopping experience and operational requirements.
Customers can quickly find compatible products based on their vehicle while thousands of fitment relationships are managed behind the scenes, helping ensure accurate product recommendations across a wide range of vehicle applications.
Products, vehicle fitment data, inventory, content, and orders are managed through a centralized administration experience, giving the Wipertech team greater visibility and control across the business.
Built with Medusa, Next.js, and Sanity CMS, and deployed on Medusa Cloud, the platform integrates with Wipertech's ERP, fulfillment providers, marketing tools, analytics platforms, and customer engagement systems. The result is a scalable commerce foundation capable of supporting continued growth across Australia, New Zealand, and future markets.
One of the most complex aspects of the platform was managing vehicle compatibility data. Wipertech sells products that are selected based on a customer's vehicle rather than traditional product attributes.
The platform integrates with external vehicle data sources and manages thousands of fitment relationships across vehicle makes, models, years, and variants. This allows customers to quickly identify compatible products while reducing purchasing errors and customer support inquiries
Beyond the customer shopping experience, the platform was designed to support the operational workflows that power Wipertech's business.
Orders, inventory, fulfillment, customer communications, reporting, and other operational processes are connected through automated workflows that reduce manual administration and improve the flow of information across the organization.
This allows the Wipertech team to manage day-to-day operations more efficiently while maintaining visibility across multiple systems, regions, and business functions.
The platform was designed to support both Australia and New Zealand from a centralized administration experience while allowing each region to maintain its own products, inventory, fulfillment workflows, pricing, and customer experiences.
Built with scalability in mind, the platform can support additional regions, fulfillment providers, warehouses, and inventory locations as business requirements evolve. This gives Wipertech the flexibility to expand into new markets while maintaining operational consistency and reducing administrative overhead.
The completed platform replaced Wipertech's legacy Craft Commerce implementation with a modern commerce architecture designed specifically for automotive fitment. Customers can now identify compatible products through vehicle-based search and compatibility tools, while internal teams manage inventory, content, orders, fitment data, and business operations through a centralized platform.
With support for thousands of vehicle, fulfillment workflows, and integrations across key business systems, the platform is positioned to support Wipertech's continued growth across Australia and New Zealand.
